Here’s My Soapbox

Neurotypical people create the schools. Neurotypical people inspect the schools. Neurotypical schools cater to neurotypical kids. Neurodivergent kids flounder in neurotypical schools. Who’s catering to neurodivergent kids?

Schools are TOO MUCH. The world is TOO MUCH. We all really need the environment to be dulled down. Where better to do that than in our schools? Our schools could be neuro-affirming spaces. Spaces that are switched on to switching off. Less stimulating, focus on socio emotional skills, smaller class sizes, knowledgable empowered staff, proactive protocol, research based education, calmer, quieter (literally just copy Scandinavian countries please). Every kid actually needs and deserves that. Most adults do too.
